Hold the Date: The Sierra Fund’s Holiday Reception

The Sierra Fund invites you to join us at our annual Holiday Reception, to be held in Sacramento Tuesday, December 1 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at the Cal/EPA building reception area on the 2nd floor, in front of the Byron Sher Auditorium.  Come celebrate the success of the year and enjoy some holiday cheer!

The Sierra Fund Board will be honoring Senators Patricia Wiggins and Lois Wolk and Assemblymember Jared Huffman for their work to protect water quality, fish, and ecosystem and human health by passing SB 670 (Wiggins), placing a temporary moratorium on suction dredge mining. The moratorium on suction dredging will remain in effect until a court mandated environmental study by the California Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is completed and new rules are put in place to protect fish habitat and human health from the deleterious effects of suction dredging.

The reception will also recognize the broad-based coalition of local, state and tribal organizations working to reform suction dredge mining, including the Karuk Tribe, Tsi-Akim Maidu Tribe, California Tribal Business Association, Friends of the River, Klamath Riverkeeper, Environmental Law Foundation, Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen’s Associations, Environmental Justice Water Coalition and The Sierra Fund.

We will also be welcoming former Assemblymember John Laird to our Board of Directors.  Light refreshments and holiday beverages will be served.  Please let us know if you plan to attend by contacting Emily Rivenes, Operations Manager of The Sierra Fund at (530) 265-8454 x12 or emily.rivenes@sierrafund.org.
