TSF’s 9th Annual Winter Legislative Reception a Success!

Last Tuesday, over 100 influential guests gathered at The Sierra Fund’s 9th Annual Winter Legislative Reception to pay tribute to the leadership of David Bunn, Martha Guzman Aceves and Senator John Burton in protecting and conserving the natural resources of the state, and particularly of the Sierra Nevada.

TSF Board Member Alison Harvey stands with Senator John Burton, for whom she formerly worked as chief of staff.

CEO Elizabeth “Izzy” Martin launched the evening program by releasing The Sierra Fund’s Platform for Action, describing our strategic plan to restore ecosystem and community resiliency in the Sierra Nevada over the next five years. TSF Board and staff members introduced honorees and invited each to the stage to accept the famed golden pine cone award.

TSF Board Member Alison Harvey, former chief of staff for Senator John Burton, teamed up with top Senate staffer Kip Lipper in a witty exchange of memories from their time working under Burton.

Before the event concluded, Izzy Martin roused the crowd to join in on a few verses of “This Land is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie, which Governor Jerry Brown referenced in his latest State of the State address. We hoped to sing to the Governor himself, but he was unable to attend this year’s event.

The evening was alight with humor, music, and the Capitol building in the background, and we could not have had such a successful event without the generous support of our sponsors, Sorensen’s Resort, John and Patty Brissenden, and the South Yuba River Citizens League. Thank you!
