The Deer Creek Tribute Trail project, which The Sierra Fund leads, has received its second W. Lon Cooper Award for New Construction, presented by the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce.
This year’s award is for the new Angkula Seo suspension bridge, which spans Deer Creek downstream of Nevada City and connects two branches of the Deer Creek Tribute Trail.
The Sierra Fund led this phase of the project, in coordination with a strong team of partners without whom the project would not have been possible including: Seattle Bridge Company (which built the bridge), Forest Trails Alliance (which built connecting trails to the bridge), the Foothill Nisenan of the Nevada City Rancheria (original peoples of this area, which the bridge site honors), and many others. The project also included significant restoration activities around the bridge site to increase fire safety and reduce invasive species.
