Information Repository established for BLM Deer Creek Project

NEVADA CITY, 1 March 2011 – An Information Repository has been established for the public to get available information about the Bureau of Land Management’s ongoing restoration project on Deer Creek.  This information is available at the Madelyn Helling Library, and online at www.sierrafund.org/campaigns/mining/BLMDeerCreek.

Documents currently included are a project fact sheet, neighborhood meeting agenda and notes, and the Removal Site Evaluation completed for the site.   More documents will be added as the project progresses.

The Deer Creek Cleanup Project aims to investigate the lasting impacts of historic mining on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) property along Deer Creek downstream of Nevada City.   Mercury and other contaminants in mine tailings on the site are being assessed, and options for cleanup are being evaluated.
