Yesterday, nearly 50 people attended the third annual fundraiser event for the Deer Creek Tribute Trail (DCTT) featuring a live auction and intimate house concert at a private home in Nevada City. The event raised nearly $5,000 to support expenses related to finishing up the newly completed Nisenan Tribute Site, and potentially paying for a new trail map that reflects all completed trail sections in one place.

The event featured “The Consolations” – a fabulous local men’s quartet with accompanist David Blanchard – who performed cover songs like “The Circle of Life,” “Stand by Me,” and the Beach Boys classic “Barbara Ann.” The Consolations had the audience clapping on their feet, performing Doo-Wop and Barbershop music from the past and the present. Learn more about them on their website at http://theconsolations.com.
After the music, a live auction and awards presentation completed the evening. Donated auction items included a guided fishing trip, a guided hike along the trail, two spectacular paintings by local artists, and a one-night stay at the Broad Street Inn. At the end of the evening, The Sierra Fund presented mementos of the project to individuals and organizations that were instrumental in bringing the Angkula Seo Suspension Bridge, connecting trail sections, and the Nisenan Tribute Site to completion.
The Sierra Fund served as the convener of this event, with help from the Trail Forum participants and neighbors. Since 2010, The Sierra Fund has served as the fiscal sponsor and project manager for certain phases of the DCTT trail project, which include: Securing easements, constructing trail segments, creating interpretive exhibits, restoration of floodplain habitat, and celebration of the people who helped build our community’s rich cultural history.
Folks who didn’t make it to the event can still donate to support the trail by clicking here to donate and selecting the program designation “Deer Creek Tribute Trail.” All contributions are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. There is also the opportunity to sponsor a bench or picnic table along the trail. A beautiful copper plaque honoring you or someone of your choice will be mounted on the bench or table. Benches are available for a $2,000 donation or tables for $3,000. For more information, contact Amber Taxiera at amber.taxiera@sierrafund.org or (530) 265-8454 x 216.
