On March 1, 2012 The Sierra Fund CEO Izzy Martin will speak at the first in a series of legislative briefings sponsored by Sierra Club of California and the Protect California Campaign.  The briefing, “Mercury in Our Water: Still Suffering from the “Old” Gold Rush as the “New” Gold Rush Begins” will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 pm in the State Capitol Building, Room 125.

Other presenters will include Dr. Carrie Monohan TSF’s Science Director, and Clean Water Action representative Andria Ventura.

Attendees will learn about California’s thousands of abandoned mines throughout the Sierra Nevada that leach mercury into the state’s water and soil, disturbing trends that could make matters worse, and effective ways to respond.
