License Plate Campaign receives major gift from the Sierra Nevada Brewery

CHICO, CA —

The Sierra Nevada Brewing Company has renewed its support for the Sierra Nevada License Plate program with a major gift of $25,000 to The Sierra Fund.  The Sierra Nevada Brewing Company has been the largest supporter of the now three-year effort of building a license plate program to provide sustainable revenue for conservation activities of the new Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

“The Sierra Nevada Brewing Company is a truly visionary community partner and business leader,” notes Elizabeth “Izzy” Martin, CEO of The Sierra Fund.  “They have gone to great effort to be a responsible ‘green’ business, with major investments in alternative energy at their Chico brewery to reduce their energy footprint.  Their consistent support for our work with the Sierra Nevada Conservancy has been vital to our successes.”

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. was recognized by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2005 as one of California’s best business waste cutters for its ongoing program of recycling, resource conservation, and innovative waste reduction efforts.

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy Board heard an update on the license plate campaign at their December 6, 2007 Board meeting in Nevada City. A marketing plan to sell the required 7,500 pre-registrations is underway and final development of the plan and plate design is expected to be presented to the full Board at the March 2008 meeting.

The campaign to create a license plate program to benefit the Sierra Nevada Conservancy began in 2005 with the introduction of legislation to create the program, which was signed into law in late 2006.  The Sierra Nevada Conservancy has agreed to work with The Sierra Fund in this campaign.  The new law for specialty plates requires 7,500 paid license plate registrations prior to issuing a Sierra Nevada license plate.  By law no public funds will be used for the License Plate Marketing Campaign, which is why the Campaign is being led by The Sierra Fund.

When the 7,500 registrations have been secured, all proceeds from the sales and renewal of Sierra Nevada License Plates will directly fund the Sierra Nevada Conservancy’s efforts to protect and restore the 25 million acres of majestic landscapes in the Sierra Nevada.
