Nisenan Cultural Reclamation Corridor

FUNDRAISER

The Sierra Fund welcomes Deer Creek neighbors, friends, and the interested public to a fundraiser for our project supporting the California Heritage: Indigenous Research Project as they plan for land management activities on their 32-acre property along Deer Creek.

This pivotal project requires capital investment in order to launch and remain sustainable. The Sierra Fund is calling upon the community to donate generously to this important work that will include a new trail segment, forest health treatment and much needed cultural reclamation for the First Nation of Nevada City.

Date for a virtual Fundraiser will be announced here ASAP

(TBD Winter 2020)

Project Details: In 2018, The Sierra Fund (TSF) enabled the acquisition of 32-acres of ancestral homeland along Deer Creek for the California Heritage Indigenous Research Project (CHIRP), the nonprofit serving the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan. TSF is working with CHIRP to implement on-the-ground activities that support the revitalization of Nisenan culture.
TSF will work with CHIRP to identify land management priorities for the forest and riparian areas of the Nisenan Cultural Reclamation Corridor (NCRC) and prepare for and build a public trail across the CHIRP-owned NCRC property as part of the Deer Creek Tribute Trail system.
