Sacramento, CA —
The Sierra Cascade Grant Program, created when voters passed Proposition 50 in November 2004, is accepting applications for funding until May 12. The Program provides funding for the acquisition of land and water rights to protect water quality in lakes, reservoirs, rivers, streams and wetlands in the Sierra Nevada-Cascade Mountain Region. There are about $15 million now scheduled to give away. The current budget under debate includes an additional $12 million for this grant program.
Recently, the Resources Agency updated their website in response to requests from organizations for a “template” of a “willing seller letter.” In order to be eligible for funding, a grant application for a proposed acquisition of a conservation easement or fee title must include a letter from the current owner of the property expressing their willingness to sell the land.
