The time has come to sign up for Lobby Day! The Sierra Fund and the Sierra Nevada Alliance have set Tuesday, May 6, 2008 as the date for our Fifth Annual Sierra Day in the Capitol. Our advocates will have several important issues to work on including:
– Seeking support for the Sierra Nevada Conservancy proposed budget of $21.7 million, including $17 million for grant programs; and
– Educating our legislators about the need for public investment in the Sierra, and distributing our beautiful conservation project portfolios with pictures and maps of projects that need funding.
Join us for the whole day, which will include an orientation on the key issues, a short training for new advocates, snacks and a bag lunch. Advocates will work in teams of 2 – 3 people, including at least one experienced advocate.
We will make your appointments with legislators and their staff, and provide written materials.
We will meet at the Westminster Presbyterian Church across the street from the Capitol at 10:00. Reservations for this free event are required (so we have enough food and lobbying packets for everyone).
We are honoured to announce that Secretary of Resources, and Chair of the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, Mike Chrisman, as well as the Sierra Nevada Conservancy’s Executive Officer Jim Branham, will join us at our reception at 4:30 at the Pyramid Brewery in downtown Sacramento to accept an award from Sierra advocates. The reception will include light refreshments and a no-host bar.
Please RSVP as soon as you know you can attend, and get your friends and allies to sign up as well! Please email your reservation to: Kerry.Morse@SierraFund.org
