Sierra Nevada Conservancy Announces Strategic Planning Workshops

Auburn, CA —

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy has announced that they will be holding a series of six strategic planning workshops, one in each region served by the new Conservancy. These workshops provide residents an opportunity to learn more about the strategic planning process now underway at the Conservancy, and to express their opinions about what the priorities of the Conservancy should be.

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy legislation, signed into law in September 2004, called for a strategic planning process. Specifically, section 3345 of the new law states:

“The conservancy shall adopt guidelines setting priorities and criteria for projects and programs, based upon its assessment of program requirements, institutional capabilities, and funding needs throughout the region, and federal, state, and local plans, including general plans, recreation plans, urban water management plans, and groundwater management plans. As part of the process of developing guidelines for projects and programs, the conservancy shall undertake and facilitate a strategic program planning process involving meetings and workshops within each of the subregions, with the purpose of formulating strategic program objectives and priorities within that subregion. The strategic program shall be updated regularly, at least once every five years.”

The Sierra Nevada Conservancy Strategic Planning Public Workshops will be held in the evening, with registration and refreshments beginning at 6:00 p.m. and the workshop beginning at 6:30 p.m.
