Nevada City — Sierra Watch is hiring a staff attorney to provide legal expertise, personal commitment and strategic leadership to its work protecting the irreplaceable resources of the Sierra Nevada from irresponsible development.
Founded in 2000, Sierra Watch has built a remarkable record of measurable success in conservation advocacy. With an initial focus on the Tahoe-Truckee region, Sierra Watch is now expanding its scope to the entire Sierra range. Areas of engagement include:
Martis Valley. Sierra Watch is spearheading a concerted, long term effort to secure a better bluprint for Tahoe's threatened Martis Valley. To date, Sierra Watch has secured a court order to stop development of 6,000 new luxury homes, raised $38 million for land preservation, and protected 5,000 acres of Martis Valley land.
Dyer Mountain. Sierra Watch is providing planning expertise and strategic support to the local effort to stop a massive 4,000 unit development proposed for remote Lassen County.
Mount Whitney. Sierra Watch is a co-plaintiff with Save Round Valley Alliance protecting threatened land at the base of Mt. Whitney in Inyo County. Sierra Watch has generated widespread support for a conservation alternative and is providing communications and planning capacity to the local organization.
Sierra Watch is currently undergoing a strategic assessment of Sierra development issues. The Sierra Watch Advocate will work to apply its success to additional development hot spots.
This is an opportunity to play a leadership role in a focused, effective, results driven organization. Headquartered in Nevada City, California — an historic mountain town with a unique quality of life, a thriving local community, and great access to the Sierra outdoors.
