March 13, 2008 BASS LAKE, CA — Today the Sierra Nevada Conservancy Board of Directors authorized grants totaling $11,137,242 for projects throughout the Sierra Nevada. This includes a $1 million grant to The Sierra Fund, who is serving as fiscal sponsor for a collaborative effort to purchase land on the Yuba River for public recreation, water quality and watershed protection.
The Board authorized “Competitive Grants” totaling $6,831,922 for larger projects with region-wide implications located throughout the range. In addition, they agreed to distribution of $4,305,320 in “Strategic Opportunity Grants” (SOGs) covering each of the six regions of the Sierra, as shown below:

A wide range of projects were funded, from watershed and meadow restoration to conservation easements on historic ranches and fuel break/forest restoration projects.
