TSF’s Mining’s Toxic Legacy Initiative receives funding from The California Endowment

The Sierra Fund is thrilled to announce that we have received funding from The California Endowment for the next two years of our Mining’s Toxic Legacy Initiative.

This $308,660 grant will sustain and expand our outreach efforts, and help design and implement community-driven land use, environmental health and general plan policies to protect low-income and ethnic communities in California’s “Gold Country.”

In 2006, The California Endowment was one of the first foundations to support our work to bring local, state and federal attention to the dangers from historic mining pollution in the Sierra Nevada.  Since then, our Initiative has developed and released the ground-breaking Mining’s Toxic Legacy report assessing the problem and presenting recommendations for action, and is working to distribute this information across the region.
