The Sierra Fund Board of Directors has formally endorsed two water bonds:
The Drought, Water, Parks, Climate, Coastal Protection, and Outdoor Access for All Act of 2018 (SB 5, author Senator de León) was passed in August 2017 and will appear on the June 2018 ballot. The act proposes the issuance of $4 billion in general obligation bonds to implement its provisions. Among other things, this bill provides $30 million for the Sierra Nevada Conservancy grant programs. Passage of SB 5 was supported by a broad coalition of environmental organizations, with almost no opposition. Learn more about this bond here: www.cprs.org/page/advocacy
The Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018 is proposed for the November 2018 ballot. The act proposes the issuance of $8.9 billion in general obligation bonds to implement its provisions. Among other things this bond proposes a total of $250 million for the Sierra Nevada Conservancy grant programs. The Act is supported by a broad coalition of environmental, farm, water agency and business organizations. The supporters are still gathering the signatures needed to qualify for the ballot.
