Nevada City, CA —
The Sierra Fund is gearing up for our 2007 project to seek 7,500 people willing to put up $50 for each Sierra Nevada Conservancy license plate. Last month the Sierra Nevada Conservancy Board of Directors indicated formal interest in putting in an application for a license plate to the Department of Motor Vehicles, and will begin developing a plate design soon.
Here's the BIG CATCH — state law prohibits the Sierra Nevada Conservancy from spending any state funds on generating the first 7,500 reservations for a license plate. The Conservancy can design the plate and submit the application, but can't spend a dime on the campaign.
That's where The Sierra Fund steps in, to serve as the lead marketing organization. The Sierra Fund will raise the money to provide the funding for this license plate marketing campaign. None of the funds for this project will come from the Conservancy.
Key partners who have funded our work on the license plate to date include the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Mad Will's Food Company, Sorenson's Resort, North Star Printing, KVMR Radio, SYRCL RiverTeachers, and Sierra Heritage Magazine. Funding for the much more aggressive, statewide campaign we are planning will come from select sponsors and stakeholders, such as businesses focused on recreation, tourism, or heritage economy in the Sierra. We also anticipate continuing to work closely with the many allies who were instrumental in getting the “license plate bill” (AB 84) passed in 2005/06.
AB 84 was sponsored by The Sierra Fund, and endorsed by
