TSF signs on to Water Policy letter

SACRAMENTO, 20 October 2009 – The Sierra Fund has joined 27 other organizations in signing a Water Policy Letter to Governor Schwarzenegger, Senate President pro Tem Steinberg, and Assembly Speaker Bass, calling out three policy recommendations about the upcoming water policy.  Other organizations are invited to sign on to this letter.

The letter, which can be viewed here, states, “We believe that implementation of these policies will put California on the right track toward a resilient water system founded on a sense of stewardship and responsibility for the precious water resources we are privileged to have.”  Policy recommendations attached to the letter fall into three categories that include values-driven management, reform of existing agencies, and sustainable financing.

A planned Assembly informational hearing on the 2009 Delta/Water Legislation has tentatively been postponed to Monday, October 26 at 9 a.m.  The Senate Natural Resources & Water Committee may act separately, but will likely be part of the joint hearing next week.
