The Sierra Fund finds Wellness in Los Angeles

23 June 2011, NEVADA CITY – Elizabeth “Izzy” Martin, CEO of The Sierra Fund, attended the California Wellness 2011 Conference on Environmental Health held in Los Angeles at the JW Marriott Hotel in late May.  The conference brought together key program staff from organizations addressing environmental health and justice issues in California. This year’s conference featured breakout sessions on topics covering program development, policy issues, and capacity building.

“The Conference reached its mark in giving me new, concrete ideas for The Sierra Fund’s activities, as well as contacts in broader networks working on environmental health issues,” noted Martin.  “Rural areas were well represented at the Conference, which is rare, and demonstrates Wellness Foundation’s commitment to working in remote areas of the state where environmental problems threaten the health of the community.”

The Conference featured an excellent series of workshops on non-profit development issues, as well as a couple of panels that looked at statewide issues.  To learn more about California Wellness Foundation, a funding partner in The Sierra Fund’s Mining Initiative, check out their website:  www.calwellness.org.
